Do colored eggs and rabbits have anything to do with Easter and Jesus? What does the Easter Holiday or better said Holy-Day mean to you?
Growing up, Easter brings back memories of the Easter Lily. My Dad was a grower and seller and I am sure over the years probably handled tens of thousands of them. His pride in his Lillies showed me his immense love for his creations. He tended the seeds into seedlings, transplanted them with care, talked with them daily as he watered and weeded them. And when they came to full height and bloom, he shared them with the world for others to experience their beauty.
I never before thought of my Father as a shepherd of sorts, but in hindsight on this Easter morning, missing him now almost fourteen years gone, I see the similarities in his humanity, his patience, his perseverence, his love for his “flock” and the pride he took in all his creation. I miss our Easters together but close my eyes and breathe in the smells of the Lillies, Hyacinths and Tulips. My Father was gifted with hands of gold.
So then this Easter reveals to me how much our Father in Heaven loved us, to share his only Son with the world. Daily the gifts we are given are revealed and offered to us. How we share these gifts is up to each of us.
Sure the eggs and candy are fun to hunt and eat. Those bring strong family memories and pictures too. Just try to remember the true reason for the season, that today a new day has been given to you, the resurrection from the old and the opportunity for the new.
